What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a safe and natural, hands-on approach to healing and health.

It is often described as the Science, Philosophy and Art of Chiropractic.

What do Chiropractors Diagnose and Treat?

Chiropractors specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of the most common disorder of the spine and peripheral joints (Subluxation) and its effects on the nervous system.

Common Conditions We Treat

Subluxations manifest in many different ways in our patients. Often they complain of:
  • Back pain, neck pain, spinal pain
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Joint pain
  • Pinched Nerve
  • Sciatica (sciatic nerve pain)
  • Numbness and Tingling
  • Muscle aches
  • Slipped disc and Disc Bulges

The Causes of Subluxation and Poor Spinal Health

All of us, through our daily lives, put stress on our spines. This stress can be:
Like a back or neck injury, poor posture etc.
Poor diet, medicines, drugs etc, or
Job stress, family stress etc.
The body will react differently, from mild aches to being in severe pain. But almost always, the spine will “stiffen” in response.

The Chiropractor will correct the spine through a specific adjustment to restore it to its natural state of structure, function and movement. Once the spine begins to function better, tissues will heal better, the nervous system will return to normal, and pain and discomfort should be eased.

What's a Chiropractic Adjustment?

An adjustment in basic terms refers to the procedure in which the chiropractor gently and skillfully applies a quick controlled pressure by hand, to a specific bone in the patients spine. Adjustments for the most part should not hurt. Chiropractors train for years to perform these correctly on patients. There may be an associated “pop” sound which is simply the joint releasing to facilitate the positional correction.

Misconceptions About Chiropractic Care

"Chiropractic is Dangerous!"

Chiropractic is recognised as one of the safest types of health care in the world. Numerous studies, including those funded by governments, universities and non-profit research institutions, have proven it to be a successful primary therapy for neuromusculoskeletal conditions – a therapy that is safer, in fact, than most medical procedures used to treat the same conditions.

How Safe is Chiropractic?

The practice of chiropractic has been well documented scientifically not only in terms of effectiveness but also in terms of safety. It is safer than taking anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants or having back surgery. The New Zealand report printed in 1979 as a result of a New Zealand government inquiry reported that chiropractic care is “remarkably safe.” The British Medical Journal reported on January 23, 1999, on a research study for low back pain, that chiropractic is one of the safest forms of treatment available. The profession is delivering millions of adjustments daily to satisfied patients all around the world. Chiropractic care is non-invasive therefore the body’s response to it is more predictable than its reactions to drug treatments or surgical interventions. Chiropractic treatment should only be rendered by a professional with proper training and experience, which is a Doctor of Chiropractic.
